Virtual workshop on Cloud Computing

ECMWF | Reading | 31 August 2018

Background and workshop description

Cloud computing is a significant element of ECMWF's strategy, in particular in support of the timely delivery of model output to Member States and Cooperating States. As volumes are growing, it is becoming more difficult to push data over the network, and it is felt that ensemble products are not used to their full potential.

Cloud technologies will alleviate this problem by “bringing the user to the data”. ECMWF is currently considering a series of use cases to study how Member States and Cooperating States would benefit from a cloud-based service co-located with the Centre’s High-Performance Computing and Data Handling System.

In this context, ECMWF is hosting this workshop during which participants will exchange experiences and plans, or simply contribute ideas, on how Member and Co-operating States could benefit from a cloud-based service at ECMWF.

Schedule

The meeting will start at 09:00 and end by 17:00.

Agenda to follow.

Attendance

Participation will be by video-conference only - there will be no physical meeting at ECMWF.

This workshop is open to colleagues from National Meteorological and Hydrological Services of ECMWF’s Member and Co-operating States who are working on this topic and would like to actively participate. Participants will be welcome to give a short presentation (10 minutes) on how cloud computing provision at ECMWF could best serve Member and Co-operating States.

If you would like to attend the workshop, please complete the registration form.
