Michael leads the Section within Research Department responsible for:
- Maintenance, development, optimisation, testing and delivery of new versions of ECMWF's Integrated Forecast System
- Integrated technical oversight of system
- Maintenance of the Research Department software infrastructure (PrepIFS, IFS version control, coding standards, etc.)
- Management of the OpenIFS project and maintenance and upgrading of OpenIFS
- Data stewardship of the ECMWF archive
- General research user support and advice and code maintenance
