Datasets
ECMWF produce and disseminate weather forecast data for the National Meteorological and Hydrological Services (NHMSs) of ECMWF Member and Co-operating States and their authorised users.
ECMWF also archives data and makes this available to authorised users. Some data is also made available under licence and some is publicly available.

Getting started
- Totally new here?
ECMWF datasets range from real-time forecast output to multi-decade reanalyses. This short guide explains what each dataset is, who can access it, and how ECMWF's data ecosystem fits together. No prior knowledge required.
- Looking for technical details?
Full parameter lists, grid specifications, file formats, and API documentation are maintained in the ECMWF Confluence user documentation. Use it to look up variable names, pressure levels, temporal resolution, and encoding standards for each product.
- Want to learn more about the pricing models?
Access to ECMWF data depends on your organisation's membership status and intended use. Some datasets — including ERA5 via the Climate Data Store and select open-data products — are free of charge. Others require a commercial or research licence.
- Ready to get started getting data?
Registered users can retrieve data directly through MARS (the Meteorological Archival and Retrieval System) or via the Climate Data Store. If you're looking for freely available forecast data with no registration required, ECMWF Open Data offers a public subset updated in real time.
