ECMWF's Council approved the Strategy for the period 2025–2034 in December 2024.
ECMWF’s vision foresees the leveraging of the existing cooperation to maximise mutual benefits and positive outcomes for society:
Vision: World-leading monitoring and predictions of the Earth system enabled by cutting-edge physical, computational and data science, resulting from a close collaboration between ECMWF and the members of the European Meteorological Infrastructure, will contribute to a safe and thriving society.
The ambition is to maximise the benefits of initialised seamless predictions exploiting the Earth system approach and the synergies with the EU Copernicus and Destination Earth programmes, with a central focus on ensemble medium-range weather forecasts and improving the skill and usefulness of forecasts for further ahead.
ECMWF's Strategy
The Strategy covers a ten-year period and is renewed every five years. As a user-driven organisation, ECMWF discusses its Strategy with representatives of Member States before submitting it to the Council for adoption.
