General Purpose Servers

ECMWF operates the following general purpose Unix servers

• a Linux Cluster which is used to provide a general purpose computing service (for internal use).
• A cluster of 6 IBM p575+ serversr running AIX 5.3 for use by Member States ("ecgate").

IBM Server Cluster "ecgate"

This system is provided for use by ECMWF Member States. It is composed of

• 6 IBM p5-575+ servers, each with
  • 16 1.9 GHz Power 5 CPUs
    • 4 High Memory Servers with 128 GB memory
    • 2 Standard Memory Servers with 32 GB memory
  • 4 x 1 Gigabit/sec Ethernet network interfaces
  • 1 x 10 Gigabit/sec Ethernet network interface
  • 4 x 2 Gigabit/sec Fibre Channel interfaces (HBAs)
  • 2 X 73 GB SCSI internal disks

An IBM DS4500 (previously known as a FAStT900) Fibre Channel storage system provides disk storage for the system, using GPFS.

The system runs AIX 5.3, batch jobs are scheduled using IBM's Loadlever.
