  • Travel: If you plan to travel by airplane, we advise you to fly to Hamburg and take the airport-bus to Kiel. The airport-bus (Kielius) leaves approximately every hour from the airport Hamburg-Fuhlsbüttel via Neumünster to the central busstation (ZOB) in Kiel. The duration is about 1 1/2 hours, see:

http://www.kielius-flughafenbus.de/ (unfortunately an only german site)

How to reach IfM is described under
    http://www.ifm.uni-kiel.de/allgemein/institute/contact.htm

We plan to start the meeting early Monday morning and to finish in the afternoon on Tuesday, so that you should be able to take evening flights from Hamburg.

  • Here you can find the agenda.

Paris, Sixth Meeting (2-3 December 2002)

  • Accomodation: Check this page to look at the hotel list recommended by IPSL. For more general information about accomodation in Paris (including maps), check this site. For Paris tourist information, follow this link.
Make your reservations yourself and do not wait for doing that. Paris might be very busy at that time of the year and accomodation is not easy (nor cheap) to find!
  • Access to LODYC: LODYC offices are located at the Université Pierre et Marie Curie, in 4, Place Jussieu Paris 6. You can find a map of the site here. You don't know how to get there? Then, use the information provided by this link.
  • Here you can find the agenda.

Bologna, Fifth Meeting (13-14 May 2002)

  • Accomodation: The Re Enzo Hotel, located close to the meeting venue, is advised. Contact directly the hotel management for reservation by email to the attention of Mr. Sandro Stridi, mentioning ARPA for the sake of paying lower fares (single 78 EUR, double 105 EUR, triple 114 EUR, including breakfast).
Make your reservations yourself and do not wait for doing that. Bologna is a very busy city and accomodation is not easy (and cheap) to find! If you want to try for lower fares in other hotels. For that, you can visit the local authority web site.
  • Access to ARPA (Servizio Meteo, Viale Silvani 6): from the airport (see the map) either take a taxi or take the BLQ bus at the airport (ticket on board), get off at Ospedale Maggiore (1st stop, ask the driver), then buy a local bus ticket (better to buy it in advance at the tobacconist at the airport), then take bus number 13 and get off at Porta S. Felice (2nd or 3rd stop, ask the driver).
  • You can get a copy of the agenda.
  • General information: Usually the weather in May is mild here. Bologna has an international airport very close to the city centre and we are not far from Florence (1 h by train), Ferrara (30 min) and Venice (2 h). Bologna itself is a beautiful place worth spending a weekend so consider to come here on Saturday 11 (you should also get a lower plane fare).

Madrid, Third Meeting (21-22 May 2001)

  • Accomodation: Please see information below about hotel accommodation. Deadline for hotel booking is 15 April. All the hotels are all located in the center of the city. Price (in pesetas, 7% VAT to be added) per room and per night.

  • Getting to the city centre from the airport (All Madrid maps at http://www.softdoc.es/madrid_guide/maps/maps.html): The airport of Madrid is linked to the city by the Underground "Metro" (complete metro map) departing from Terminal 2. Single tickets fare is only 145 Pts. For the city centre take direction to "Mar de Cristal" station and change there to Line 4 direction "Argüelles". The centre is also linked to the airport by the white and yellow buses departing every 15 minutes from all the terminals; their final stop is at Plaza Colon and the fare is 420 Pts. A taxi service from the airport to the city centre may cost around 3000 Pts in normal traffic conditions. Be sure to use official cabs (white with a narrow red strip in the doors); others may be expensive. Note that both Hotel Tirol and Hotel Moncloa Garden (map of the town centre with hotels location) are located less than 100 meters from the Argüelles Metro station of Line 4. Hotel Alcalá Regina is close to the Sol Metro Station (many lines converging to it).
  • Getting to the INM from the city centre: The Instituto Nacional de Meteorología (INM) is located at "Camino de las Moreras" in the university area, not far away from the centre of Madrid. The Underground ("Metro") is the easiest way to get there. Take Line 6 (circular) to stations "Ciudad Universitaria" or "Metropolitano" both at 10 minutes walking distance from the INM (look at the map of the INM area). Buses numbers 82 and 132 also have stops in the nearby of the INM and can be boarded in the area of Moncloa. The same tickets are used for the Metro and for the city buses. The single trip fare is 145 Pts. A ticket for 10 rides costs 760 Pts and is valid for different trips any day or for different users. A taxi run from the centre to the INM is not expensive (about 1000 Pts). Not every taxi driver is aware of the INM location so do not forget to take with you the address or a map.
