WARNING (6/5/2004) The Met Office data for the coupled model hindcast (GloSea) started in February 1968 were corrupted. The data have been corrected and users are requested to make a new retrieval to substitute their previous files. WARNING (6/9/2006) Some of the Met Office data (total precipitation and total soil moisture) for the coupled model hindcast (GloSea) started in November 1992 are corrupted. We are waiting for the data to be corrected, when users will be requested to make a new retrieval to substitute their previous files. WARNING (10/12/2006) The Met Office maximum temperature data are the same as the minimum temperature data for all start dates. The data will be corrected soon and a new notice will appear here to request users to make a new retrieval to substitute their previous files. The hindcasts produced in DEMETER can be retrieved from MARS (a certificate is required for the access). The variable "expver" has been used to distinguish the different partners. The possible values of this variable are:
This script can be used as example for a typical retrieval. It extracts daily data of low-level wind (variables 165 and 166) and OLR (variable 179) for the dates available for the seven models. Don't hesitate to use the information provided by WebMARS to modify it accordingly with your requirements. Take into account that this script is just an example and that a much more efficient retrieval can be carried out by requesting all the dates of interest at the same time. Some partners have performed several experiments that are distinguished with the MARS variable "method". Users are strongly advised to retrieved data using the method=1 in their MARS requests. Both the time required for the requests and the load of the system are sensibly reduced. However, if you are interested in accessing data for particular experiments, the value taken by the variable method is described below. ECMWFThe last two cyphers of the MARS command method indicate the ERA40 experiment used to initialise the model:
Then, different numbers are added up to construct the final method:
The official ECMWF version for DEMETER is the control run. LODyCThe following list applies:
Météo-FranceMethod number 11. MPIMethod number 13 from 1969 to 1986 and 12 afterwards. INGVMethod number 112. MetOfficeThe number for the coupled experiment is 12 for the monthly means and 11 for the daily data. You add up 200 to obtain the data of the atmospheric model forced with persisted SSTs. CERFACSMethod number 11.
