Conventions for Atmosphere Archiving: General features

General features

The fields are written using the corresponding model grid or in spherical harmonics. It is preferable to archive the data directly in MARS at the same time as the experiment runs on the super-computer. This will avoid unnecessary ECFS overheads. Sample files for an ECMWF hindcast are provided. This file contains daily data for all the common variables (surface and pressure levels) for the first 10 days of a 2-member ensemble started on the 1st of May 1991, while this file offers monthly means for the first two months of the same ensemble.
