Description:
period supported - 1 May 1994 to current date;
each parameter at each level is stored as a field either of
grid point values, or of spherical harmonic coefficients;
spherical harmonic coefficients are stored as defined by code
figure 1 in Tables 9 and 10 of FM 92-IX Ext GRIB;
data are stored in FM 92 GRIB using sufficient bits to ensure
that the values represented can be retrieved to an accuracy consistent
with the analysis method used.
The changes to this data set are as follows:
1 May 1994
Internal data representation is in spherical harmonics with triangular truncation
at wave number 63 (T63).
Data consists of an ensemble of
32 daily 10 day forecasts from base time 1200 UTC
Forecast
steps available are 0 then 12 hourly to HH+240 (10 days)
5 pressure levels, 1000, 850, 700, 500 and 200 hPa
Fields available are geopotential, temperature, vertical velocity, u- and v-components
of horizontal wind, relative vorticity, divergence, specific humidity and relative
humidity
10 December 1996
Internal data representation is in spherical harmonics with
triangular truncation at wave number 159 (T159).
Specific humidity changed to being archived
on an N80
Gaussian grid.
The number of ensemble members increased
to 50.
13 January 2000
From this date geopotential and temperature are archived at
levels 850 and 500 hPa for forecast steps 0 then 6 hourly to HH+240. All other
fields and levels are still archived only every 12 hours.
21
November 2000
Internal data representation is in spherical harmonics with triangular truncation
at wave number 255 (TL255).
