ECMWF 40 Year Re-analysis (ERA-40) Monthly Means Surface Forecast Data Set



 

 
 

This part includes a brief description of the ERA-40 Monthly Means Surface Forecast Data Set. Please use our Online Ordering system to order this data set.

Description :

  • fields are monthly means from base times 0000, 0600, 1200 and 1800 UTC at steps 3 and 6; and for monthly means of daily means for forecast step 6 only;
  • each parameter at each level is stored as a field of grid points at N80 resolution;

Fields available are:

10 metre u and v wind components, 10 metre wind speed, 2 metre dewpoint temperature, 2 metre temperature, boundary layer dissipation, boundary layer height, convective precipitation, convective snowfall, East-West surface stress, evaporation, forecast albedo, forecast log surface roughness for heat, forecast surface roughness, gravity wave dissipation, high cloud cover, ice surface temperature levels 1, 2, 3 and 4, instantaneous moisture flux, instantaneous surface heat flux, instantaneous X surface stress, instantaneous Y surface stress, instantaneous moisture flux, instantaneous surface heat flux, land-sea mask, large scale precipitation fraction, large scale snowfall, latitudinal component of gravity wave stress, low cloud cover, magnitude of surface stress, mean sea level pressure, medium cloud cover, meridional component of gravity wave stress, North-South surface stress, runoff, sea surface temperature, sea-ice cover, skin reservoir content, skin temperature, snow albedo, snow density, snow depth, snow evaporation, snowfall (convective + large scale), snowmelt, soil temperature levels 1, 2, 3 and 4, stratiform precipitation (large scale precipitation), sunshine duration, surface latent heat flux, surface net solar radiation clear sky, surface net thermal radiation clear sky, surface sensible heat flux, surface solar radiation, surface solar radiation downward, surface thermal radiation, surface thermal radiation downward, surface stress/Charnock, temperature of snow layer, top net solar radiation clear sky, top net thermal radiation clear sky, top solar radiation, top thermal radiation, total cloud cover, total column ozone, total column water, total column water vapour, volumetric soil wetness levels 1, 2, 3 and 4.
