Training course: Use of Computing Facilities, 2012



 
 

Overview

The objective of this course is to introduce users of ECMWF's computing and archive systems to the Centre’s facilities, and to explain how to use them.

The course is divided into six separate modules:

28 Feb - 2 March GRIB GRIB API: Library and tools
5 - 9 March MARS Introduction for new users/MARS

12 - 13 March

MAG Magics
14 - 16 March MV METVIEW
19 - 23 March HPCF Use of supercomputing resources
26 - 28 March ECFLOW Introduction to ecFlow
 

Requirements

The practical sessions for all modules will involve using a UNIX interactive system. Participants of any module must know basic UNIX commands, including how to use an editor (e.g. vi, etc.). Participants of modules GRIB, MARS, MAG and HPCF are also expected to know ANSI Fortran 77 or 90. Participants of module ecFlow should be familiar with Python.

Students can attend any or all of these modules.

Each module will consist of some lectures and some practical sessions. All the lectures will be given in English. For each module handouts, basic manuals and other relevant documentation will be provided as required.

Registrations

Applications should arrive at ECMWF at the latest by Friday 9 December 2011.

Candidates will be notified by 11 January 2012 whether their application is accepted.
