Numerical Weather Prediction, 2009

Overview

The objective of the meteorological training course is to assist Member States in advanced training in the field of numerical weather forecasting.

The course is divided into modules as follows:

NWP-PR
16 - 25 March 2009 Predictability, diagnostics and extended-range forecasting (8 days)
NWP-NM
30 March - 3 April 2009 Numerical methods, adiabatic formulation of models (5 days)
NWP-DA
20-29 April 2009 Data assimilation and use of satellite data
(8 days)
NWP-PA
11-21 May 2009 Parametrization of diabatic processes
(9 days)

Requirements

Students attending the course should have a good meteorological and mathematical background, and are expected to be familiar with the contents of standard meteorological and mathematical textbooks. Some practical experience in numerical weather prediction is an advantage.

All the lectures will be given in English.
