Meteorological Training Course 15 March - 11 June 2004

Overview

The objective of the meteorological training course is to assist Member States in advanced training in the field of numerical weather forecasting.

The course is divided into modules as follows:

ECMWF Products and the Use of ECMWF Products

Code
15 - 19 March 2004 Use and interpretation of ECMWF products (5 days) MET OP-I
7 - 11 June 2004 Use and interpretation of ECMWF products (5 days) MET OP-II

11 - 15 October 2004

Use and interpretation of ECMWF products for WMO members (5 days) MET OP-WMO

Numerical Weather Prediction

22 March - 1 April 2004 Parametrization of diabatic processes (9 days) MET PA
19 - 28 April 2004 Numerical methods, adiabatic formulation of models (8 days) MET NM
5 - 14 May 2004 Data assimilation and use of satellite data (8 days) MET DA
17 - 21 May 2004 Predictability, diagnostics and seasonal forecasting (5 days) MET PR

Requirements

Students attending the course should have a good meteorological and mathematical background, and are expected to be familiar with the contents of standard meteorological and mathematical textbooks. Some practical experience in numerical weather prediction is an advantage.

All the lectures will be given in English. A set of Lecture Notes will be provided for modules on Numerical Weather Prediction.
