Part-time English editor / assistant - to cover maternity leave (consultancy position)

The European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) is an international organisation supported by 31 States*. Its prime objectives are the operational production of analyses, medium-range forecasts of weather and ocean waves and seasonal forecasts, as well as scientific and technical research directed to the improvement of these forecasts. Main duties:

This part-time post (20 hours per week, ideally 4 hours per day) is located in the Administration Department of ECMWF and forms an integrated part of a small team providing secretarial and clerical support to the various Sections within the Department. Some flexibility in the working hours will be required from time to time.

The main duties of this post are:

• to edit and correct scientific, administrative and financial documents for the meetings of the organisation’s governing and advisory bodies, written by non-native English speakers.

Qualifications:

The successful candidate should be of English mother tongue and have an excellent command of written English, as well as good writing skills. Experience in writing and/or editing documents would be a distinct advantage. The successful candidate will work in close cooperation with the Centre’s Translator. This position would suit a recent translation or English graduate.

Remuneration:

£1,300.00 per month net of tax. A deduction of either £33.62 per beneficiary or 4.38% of the monthly remuneration will be made for the supplementary health insurance scheme.

Starting date: 1 July 2010.

Length of contract: 8 months (until 28 February 2011).
