Senior Analyst Consultant (to work in the Data and Services Section)

Environment:

The European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) is an international organisation supported by 32 States*. Its prime objectives are the operational production of analyses, medium-range forecasts of weather and ocean waves and seasonal forecasts, as well as scientific and technical research directed to the improvement of these forecasts. ECMWF operates a large computing facility including supercomputers, data archiving systems and networks.

Main duties:

The post is located in the Data and Services Section of the Operations Department. This Section is responsible for managing the ECMWF archive (MARS) and data catalogues as well as providing access to ECMWF’s products. ECMWF is developing its data services activities by providing external commercial and research users with real-time and archived data, as well as software packages.  Details can be found at:

The main duties are:

  • Coordinating the activities of the Data Services group
  • Maintaining good customer relations and cooperation with representatives of Member States and Cooperating States
  • Developing effective internal administrative procedures to ensure data services are provided in a timely and efficient manner
  • Preparing licences for the supply of real-time and archive data and software
  • Maintaining the content of the Data and Services web pages
  • Providing management with regular reports and statistics
  • Processing requests and enquiries concerning data services and delivering data and software to customers

Qualifications:

A university education or equivalent is required.  Experience of the provision and licensing of meteorological or equivalent data would be a distinct advantage.

Fluency in one of the working languages of the Centre (English, French and German) and a good knowledge of at least one of the other languages are also required.

Remuneration:

Typically within the ranges of £4,685.00 to £6,360.00 per month net of tax, depending upon qualifications, experience, personal situation and eligibility for expatriation allowance.  A deduction of either £33.62 per beneficiary or 4.38% of the monthly remuneration will be made for the supplementary health insurance scheme.

Starting date: As soon as possible.

Length of contract: Two years, with the possibility of further extension.
