Project description

Continuation of applications of a high resolution third generation WAM wave model to the Mediterranean Sea and to explore in detail the model response to small variations in the input wind fields. With this aim, the same storms will be run with different wind fields. This will allow the sensitivity of the model output with respect to the input wind fields to be estimated. Also, we expect to begin to explore the influence of satellite wind data on the model performance.
This project is aimed at evaluating the performance of a regional shallow water version of the WAM third generation model. Wind data from both the ECMWF global model and high resolution LAM has been used to drive the wave model. Increases in resolution have been shown to be important for accurate simulation of the wave field in the Mediterranean during stormy conditions. The work provides interesting feedback to ECMWF.
